Pipe Jacking and Tunneling

The demand of underground construction works has been growing since our Government’s direction to free up precious lands for other developments in our land scarce urban environment. KTC has been engaging in underground construction works which started with excavation and subsequently into underground infrastructures construction. The opportunity came when KTC was awarded a services diversion contract (TE02) at Lim Chu Kang area by DSTA in mid-2021, which part consist of a 6km 1.8m diameter sewer pipe jacking work. As part of the Group’s direction to enhance our technical and engineering capabilities, the management decided in late 2021 to venture into underground tunneling and jacking works. Express Tunnelling Pte Ltd was re-purposed in July 2022 and will be take on tunnel construction works for KTC as well as to meet the needs of the industry.

In Feb 2024, KTC was awarded the Contract by LTA to construct Maju Station and Tunnels. The project consist of 600m of twin bored tunnels under Clementi Forest at approximately 40m depth and the 6m diameter tunnels will be constructed using one Earth Pressure Balance Machine.

The venture into underground tunneling and pipe jacking work synchronizes with our vision to be a premium contractor in the field of civil infrastructure works. It is also in-line with our effort to diversify our operation to be less reliance on labor with high adoption of special techniques. We hope that with this new venture, KTC can subsequently develop a core tunnel team to embark on tunneling works for rail expansion projects in Singapore.
