Liquid Modified Soil (LMS)

Background & Mission

Eastern Continent is formed in 1992 as a civil engineering company. Over the years, as the demand of recycling construction by-products increases, we turn our focus to develop environmentally sustainable Void Filling (VF) products using recycled construction material. In 2014, we collaborated with GEO5 R&D and Services Pte Ltd, a geotechnical expert in soil stabilization and ground improvement led by Dr. Chew Soon Hoe of National University of Singapore to research and develop LMS (commonly known as LSS). The first delivery of LMS started in 2017 for backfilling works at EW3-Paya Lebar Cable Tunnel and since then, we have supplied to numerous construction projects with our various types of LMS customizing to the needs of the industry.

Our mission is to continue exploring innovative VF products to cater for the needs of the construction industry. We never stop at the development of LMS as we believe the horizon to innovate is far beyond our imagination. To-date, with advice from our Consultant Dr. Chew, we have launched new products, a new breakthrough in the industry.

Besides developing VF products, Eastern Continent also recycle construction debris and excavated material converting them into useable products for construction projects. Sophisticated equipment and technique were adopted to ensure that the desired products are generated in high quality. As Singapore move into zero waste ambition, we hope that any effort to reuse our material will come a long way to benefit our environment.

Liquid Modified Soil (LMS)

Eastern Continent’s Liquid Modified Soil (LMS), an engineered self-compacting void filling material develop from recycled unsuitable soil/sand/slurry and cement, is produced from our state of the art computer automated plant similar to the ready-mix concrete plant. High standard of quality control implemented at the plant ensure that our products are consistent and complying. Our LMS products are classified into 4 basic categories based on various characteristics as illustrated in Table 1. In addition, we also have Lightweight and High-Flow LMS, and are able to customize our LMS to meet different and specific requirements.

These features enable Liquid Modified Soil (LMS) to be used effectively as a superior VF material with significant gains in productivity achieved, compared to the use of the usual materials like good earth or sand, where they present a myriad of engineering challenges.

Potential Applications:

  • General self-compacting backfill
  • Backfill of voids and areas with space constraint
  • Filling of abandoned pipes
  • Filling of empty bored hole
  • Replacement of unsuitable soil
